MMC: Be prepared

Good morning!

Thank you to everyone who came to the outdoor worship and picnic yesterday, especially everyone who set-up, cooked, baked, brought food and cleaned up. It was an absolutely gorgeous day! With one surprising twist.

After worship, most of the items that were used for worship got put away fairly quickly. But the cross got put to the side. Later, as the last of the tables and chairs were being put away from the picnic, I noticed the cross and went to go put it away, but first I was struck by the shape of the burn mark from the papers:

Not a perfect heart but a heart, in the middle of the cross.

Also many of you commented and enjoyed the Adirondack chairs and fire-pit in front of the parsonage.  If you would like to enjoy the chairs, the view, possibly a fire, and a glass of wine, you are welcome to come any Wednesday evening at 7:30 for bible study.  You do not have to be a biblical scholar as we look at the gospel for the upcoming Sunday and discuss our thoughts on the text.

And now to look at the upcoming text for Sunday.

The first lesson is Genesis 15:1-6.  Abram (soon to be Abraham) is promised as many descendants as there are stars in the sky.  How do you see God's promise?  What has God promised you?  How do you hear God telling you not to be afraid?  How can this text be used negatively against adoption and in disputes of inheritance?

The second lesson is Hebrews 11:1-3,8-16.   What is faith to you?  How do you define faith?  What has your faith taught you?  What do you hope for and desire?

The Gospel is Luke 12:32-40Jesus tells us not to be afraid, but to be on guard "for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour."  How are you afraid of the future?  How are you prepared for it?  How does Jesus come to you?  What scares you most about being Christian?  What comforts you the most?

Hope you have a great week as the Lord blesses you in many ways.
